YOUR LIFE ON YOUR TERMS

Collaborative Psychotherapy

COVID-19 UPDATES

As we continue to navigate this new way of living, I will continue to provide initial and ongoing services remotely. I am still accepting new clients; therefore, I welcome your inquiry. Don't live in the Bay Area? No worries! As a California licensed therapist, I am able to provide telehealth services to those throughout the state. During our initial consultation, we will discuss how comfortable you feel with the distance between us. If it's decided that you'd prefer a local therapist, then I can help to identify some resources. We will continue to get through this together, one day at a time.

YOU MADE IT!

Welcome in.

Now, it is my hope that you stay a while, and grow comfortable with knowing that you have just found a safe ally. It can be scary and exhausting to search endlessly for the right therapist. The process can almost feel like that colloquial expression of: “I’ll know it when I see it”. Except in this case, the thinking may be: “I’ll know it when I feel it”. It is my hope that after briefly tapping you into my world, you will feel comfortable and safe enough to begin tapping me into yours.

ABOUT ME

I am an East Coast native that comes to the Bay Area by way of Boston. Although I miss having prominent seasons, I will say that I do not miss the winter season. The cold and snowy months no longer served me well. The gentle nudge from family here convinced me to visit back in 2015, and the rest was history!

The realm of psychology has intrigued me ever since I was a child. It was always fascinating to me to learn and understand the workings of the mind, and how our different types of environments impact it. As I expanded my education, training, and thinking, it clicked that in some existential way everything is connected. Our upbringing. Our personality. Our relationships to others. Our desires. Our flaws and strengths. They are all intertwined in a way that impacts how we move in our present time. Once I embraced this intricacy, I began to ease off of the gas of self-criticism, and downshifted to a perspective of self-curiosity and compassion.

As one who is still on the active journey of self-exploration, healing, and tenderness, I empathize with your courage to finally put yourself first. If you allow me onboard, it would be an honor to join you on your voyage to self-exploration, healing, and tenderness.

Education & Licensure

I am a proud Syracuse University alumna (go Orange!). I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with a specialization in Child and Family Studies. I furthered my education and training at Boston College, and graduated with a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. Once I moved to California, I completed the state's additional academic and fieldwork experience needed to prepare me for licensure.

I have been a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists' (CAMFT) organization since 2015. As an Out-of-State clinician, CAMFT truly helped me to get acquainted with the tools and resources needed to become licensed in California. With hard work, tenacity, my support systems, and patience, I successfully obtained my license in 2019. As a life long learner, I know that earning my license is just the tip of the iceberg in strengthening my clinical practice.

MY CLINICAL APPROACH

I welcome all aspects of yourself, and I respect your timing in introducing me to each of those parts. My clinical thinking and practice is through a Trauma-Informed and Psychodynamic lens. This perspective affords me the tools to help you explore how past traumas and negative experiences may be influencing your present. Trauma is not a one-size-fits-all. We will take our time to identify what trauma looks and feels like for you.

To encourage this process, my style is relational. When you enter my (virtual) office, you can expect to work with a warm, intentional, empathetic, and humorous clinician. I meet you where you are at. I respect your pace while utilizing my intuitive and direct nature to gently push our process through stagnant times.

Through our curiosity and partnership, we will work to heal old wounds. We will work to nourish and replenish your mind, body, and spirit. We will work to get rid of those negative thoughts and feelings that no longer serve you. Let’s find out what the best version of yourself looks like. You deserve to see it, and you deserve to be it.

MY SPECIALTIES & AREAS OF INTERESTS

My Specialties:

* Woman of Color in leadership roles, entrepreneurs, and/or business owners that are struggling with feelings of imposter syndrome

* Older adolescents (16+) and college-age adults that are struggling with life transitions, feelings of self-doubt, and fear of the future (especially as it relates to navigating through COVID-19)

* Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) adults that feel stuck in life due to the roadblocks that their unprocessed grief and/or trauma has created

My Populations & Areas of Interests

Throughout my career, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with and being an ally to: Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), particularly those who are Black-identified, the LGBTQIA+ community, Gen Z, Millennials, College Students, and Parents of Blended Families.

Along with my specialty areas, I have over eight years of community-based experience working with those suffering from: PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, and intimacy and relationship issues.

Lastly, let's talk sex for a minute. In our society, the notion of sex continues to be a taboo. It is hard to feel like we have permission to safely talk about it, explore it, and experiment with it. As a sex-positive therapist, I strive to hold a safe space for you to bring the topic into the room. Don't want to go there? No worries! Just know that I am open and interested to do so if you would like to. I am not a certified sex therapist, but I am still deeply interested in working with you. My door is open for you if you are one who dabbles with, are curious about, navigating consent around, or lives an alternative sexual lifestyle(s), such as: kink/BDSM, swingers, polygamy, and non-monogamy. It is time to normalize sexual diversity, and I hope to start that process with you.

MY SERVICES

Sometimes you need a space just for yourself. But sometimes you need a space for both you and your partner(s). Whatever process you are needing, know that I am available to provide either of those services.

TESTIMONIALS

"I’ve had the privilege of working with Jackie for three years at a difficult and challenging community mental health setting. She’s a strong empath and is quite sensitive to her patients’s trapped and concealed feelings, emotions, and experiences. When she sees that her patients are mired in a paralysis or destructive behaviors, she’s unafraid to be direct and forthcoming about it with her patients. Nonetheless, she communicates this in a caring and encouraging tone that allows her patients to see and face difficult parts of themselves. She’s the real deal."

- Gregory Desierto, PsyD

"I got the chance to work with Jackie for three years when we were both Outpatient Therapists at a community mental health clinic. Jackie is multi-talented, has an eye for macro, mezzo, and micro issues, cares deeply about her passions, believes in the power of healing and potential for progress, and brings creativity and curiosity to her undertakings."

- Christina Watkins, LCSW

"I recommend Jackie highly as a bright, committed, life-affirming psychotherapist. I had the pleasure of supervising Jackie for two years. Jackie is a quick study; she is intuitive and she is able to use herself well to connect to her client's experience. She is supportive and encouraging and uses her sense of humor and a vast array of cultural references to help her clients feel seen and appreciated. Jackie is interested in her own personal and professional growth and she imbues her clients with curiosity about their own life process."
